Central Baptist Church Delhi




Located on the main road in Chandni Chowk, this church is just next to Gurudwara Sis Ganj and before the Bhai Mati Das Chowk or also known as the Fountain Chowk in Delhi. This is said to be the Christian missionary that is the oldest existing in the northern part of India. The Central Baptist Church was established in 1814 after a land was purchased by the Baptist Missionary Society in London.

Architecture

This marks a fine example of the architecture of the European style. A large deep colonnaded porch is at the southern exit of the church which is supported through dense and heavy circular columns. Also there are verandahs of double height and has arched openings in semi-circular shapes.  The original motifs and the carvings adorn the walls of the church but the roof has been re-made with iron beams and stones. Also one can remember the old faithful devotees who served in the church for a lifetime with the tablets on the walls.

Architecture

The thick and the original motifs and carvings on the walls of the church is worth to be appreciated and the rich white coloured church is a sign of that beautiful European culture. Also there are some tablets that remember the names of those devotees who served their life in the church. The roof of the church was made again after a course of time with stones and iron beams. Around the church, one can also see many churches and those many primary schools and institutes in the vicinity.

It is located opposite to the Gurudwara Sis Ganj and is one of the famous churches in the city. This was made to promote Christianity and was constructed as a part of the Christian missionary’s activities. The most important is the prayers that take place every Sunday.

The events in the church like Christmas and Easter are celebrated with much enthusiasm and zeal and many people become a part of it. Putting a cover on their life sorrows, they become a part of this missionary and enjoy their hearts out. A lot of colour and pomp is a part of this festivity and makes for a grand event for the devotees and the followers.

Gurudwara Sis Ganj

Established in the year 1783, the Gurudwara is located in the hustle bustle of Chandani Chowk. It was built where Guru Tegh Bahadur was beheaded and the present building of the Gurudwara which has a canopy right in the middle of the big hall was made in the year 1930. The Holy book is placed right underneath the huge canopy which is known as the Guru Granth Sahib. There is also pace for the pilgrims or visitors to stay in the huge Gurudwara which has around 250 rooms to give shelter. Also the modern amenities at the Gurudwara makes it easy for the people to reside there peacefully.
