Iskcon Temple




ISKCON or also known as the Sri Sri Radha Parthasarathi Mandir is a very famous temple in New Delhi and is a Vaishnav temple of Radharani and Lord Krishna in the Radha Parthasarathi form. It was started in the year 1998 and is in the East of Kailash area in New Delhi at Hare Krishna Hills.

Architecture

This temple, ISKCON, was made by Achyut Kanvinde and in the year 1993, he accepted the pro-bono commission to make this temple for the devotees and followers of Srila Prabhupada. This temple is one of the largest complexes all over India. There are many rooms inside for the service renders and the priests.

Gaura Poornima Celebrations

Gaura Poornima is celebrated by all by doing fasts till dusk where they chant Krishna’s name and offer food to the lord. The celebrations at ISKCON are very vibrant. A shobha-yarta is organized with the idol of Sri Sri Gaura Nitai. Also a maha abhishek takes place following with Prasad and dinner for everyone present for the celebrations.

Shree Krishna Janmashtmi Celebrations

For this festival, the preparations are started well in advance. Volunteers, well wishers and devotees work to keep this celebration on the right track and ensure that all the devotees get the darshan of lord without much inconvenience on the day of Janmashthami. Also to mark the celebrations, Bhagvat katha is organized before the festival.

Rama Navmi

This celebration is on a very large scale where the one week before the Ram Navmi, discourse of a week on Ram Lila and just a day before the festival, they hold a yagna to clean the atmosphere. On this festival, everyone fasts till the sunset. The idols of Lakshman, Sita and Rama are decorated with beautiful and expensive ornaments. Also cultural performances are held during the evening.

Visitors Information

The hall that is the main temple hall is closed between 1 pm to 4pm.

The closest metro station is the Nehru Place metro station and is just at a distance of 5 minutes’ walk. The other option is Kailash Colony Metro Station.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit this temple is during the festivals as the temple wears a total different look. Lakhs of devotees throng to the temple to get the blessings of the deity.
