Janpath means “People’s path”. It is a very important road in New Delhi. It starts from Connaught place as a Radial Road One and goes towards the north-south direction perpendicular to Rajpath. It was originally known as the Queen’s way and played an important part in the Lutyens’ design during the inauguration of a new capital of India, Delhi in 1931. Janpath market comes in the list of most popular tourist markets of New Delhi. The market has a large number of boutique stores which sell products that are very difficult to find in the shopping malls of the city. It is a heaven for the travellers who have a limited budget and buyers of garments and handicrafts. It also has numerous fast food places.

Janpath market starts from Connaught place outer circle and goes up 1.5 km till Windsor Place. Janpath market comes in the list of most popular tourist markets of New Delhi. The market has a large number of boutique stores which sell products that are very difficult to find in the shopping malls of the city. It is a heaven for the travellers who have a limited budget and buyers of garments and handicrafts. It is one of the oldest markets in New Delhi with some boutiques being opened way back in 1950s. The most famous attraction is the beautiful Pashmina shawl from the state of Kashmir. Most of the products are genuine and are of original quality over here rather than most of the other markets in Delhi which are famous for selling duplicates. Other items include Indian kurtis, Kashmiri wool scarves and shawls, churidars, artefacts, brass ornaments, carpets etc. Good quality city maps can be purchased from the Tourist office at the corner of Connaught lane and Janpath. The Tibetan market is situated between the Imperial Hotel and fire lane. It has a wide variety of Musical instruments, Himalayan crafts and arts, bead shops, wall hangings and there are plenty of shops for them. The Jantar Mantar, which is an astrological instrument for enormous scopes, is situated behind the Tibetan market, a visit to Jantar Mantar is truly worth.

The Janpath market also has many sellers who keep walking and sell necklaces, trinklets, handicrafts, horns, drums, postcards etc. especially to the foreigners, who now know the bargaining techniques. Most of these vendors are good at trading and speak English very well. There is a National Museum towards the south of Rajpath and it takes almost half a day to stroll around.
