Founded in the year 1956, Galerie Romain Rolland is an art gallery located in Delhi. It is a part of the Alliance Française De Delhi that operates as an Indo-French cultural centre. Established on 30th June 1956, Alliance Française De Delhi was born through the joint initiative of two different cultures. All alliances that are a part of the international organization called Alliance Française promote French culture and the language, all across the globe. At present, there are 19 alliances in India and are located at Mysore, Bangalore, Coimbatore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Goa, Karikal, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mahe, Jaipur, Bhopal, Mumbai, New Delhi, Gurgaon, Pondicherry, Pune, Ahmedabad and Trivandrum, respectively.

Mr. Ghulam Naqshband was the first person to establish this organization in Delhi, following the proposal of the then Cultural Counselor of the French Embassy, Claude Journot. From its inception till date, the institution serves as a bridge spreading the Indo-French culture. The centre operates like an institution that specializes in teaching French language, and holds cultural events from time to time. The gallery is named after a peace-loving French Nobel Laureate who loved India for all its cultural and artistic activities. His perception and passion for the art is best reflected through the art forms displayed at the center. Although this centre mainly emphasizes on displaying contemporary art works, it is also used as a cultural area for enlightening people about art. The centre is actively used by the Alliance Française De Delhi for holding their educational events.

With its unique construction, the Galerie Romain Rolland art gallery displays the art works on an elevated platform that is bound to grab the attention of the spectators. One portion of the gallery rises to about 40 inches from the basement that is enclosed in a crystal clear box of glass, which is used to display unique and rare art works. It also has a small open space near the steps for displaying small artifacts and sculptures. Moreover, the venue is well-lit and has individual lighting arrangements, so that every single piece of art can be displayed aesthetically.

Spread across 180 square meters, this centre continues to emerge as an important venue for artistic presentations. Many budding and senior artists choose the venue to display their art forms to the public. Although this centre was founded by the French who love the Indian culture and traditions, it supports all kinds of art forms without any restrictions. The Galerie Romain Rolland art gallery has hosted the works of many reputed artists across the globe and continues to support deserving and upcoming artists. It has emerged as one of the finest art galleries in the country by displaying the maximum number of art works, by eminent and reputed artists. This is the much sought after place for many collectors and a haven for those who adore contemporary art forms.
