A hired car or taxi (generally with a driver) is available to visit many far off places around and within the Delhi city. But then, Metro service is comparatively comfortable and cheaper.

Most of the taxis in Delhi are old but the CNG operated Omni van and ambassadors display yellow and black livery with green stripe.

The most preferred choice for a family is Chevrolet Travera or Toyota Innova. All the hired cars carry meter charging 15 Rs for the initial one Km and 9.50 Rs for every km after that. These meters are frequently rigged so it’s advisable to fix the price before the journey.

Most of the journey inside the city will be charged between RS 200 – 500, whereas trip towards airport might be costlier depending on starting point. They charge 1500 Rs for an 8 hour journey and tip is essential for drivers. There is no air-conditioning facility in yellow and black taxis. In case of air-conditioned, they collect extra fares. (The fares should be fixed by bargaining hard with cab drivers).
