Gurudwara Nanak Piao Sahib

Situated near the Sabzi Mandi on the GT road, Delhi, Gurudwara Shri Nanak Piao Sahib is a must visited place by most of the pilgrims in the city. Guru Nanak came to this location at the reign of Sikander Lodhi with Bhai Mardana. He took rest and stopped at a garden. He then made a well in the middle of the garden for the visitors to get water to drink and save them from scorching heat. Also, he made a free kitchen for the travellers to use. With the passage of time, many people started visiting him and the offering that were given to him were further showered over the poor and the needy during the Guru Sahib Langar. Various religious issues were discussed by the yogis with Guru Nanak and the great emperor, Sikander Lodhi also visited and met Guru Nanak as he was immensely impressed with his aura and personality.

History

It is said that a dead elephant was revived when Guru Nanak was staying in Delhi. When the emperor came to know about the power within this holy man, who also became very famous amongst many Muslim and Hindu divines, he did not wait anymore and thought of visiting him. When the Guru refused and was forced, he was jailed immediately. He was then struck with the suffering of those many prisoners and influenced the prison officials to a very great extent.

On July 3, 1505, when Guru Nanak was in the jail, a very strong earthquake rocked the city. It was so grand and massive that even the mountains got upturned. The day of Resurrection as said by the Muslims had come. Many felt that it was the curse given by Guru Nanak over the king and the kingdom.

This gurudwara has grown in size like any other historical Gurudwara and has gained immense popularity in the past 50 years. A vast difference has been recorded in the last 10 years.
