Delhi Legal Service Authority
Legal matters often end up in tears for common citizens. It happens mainly for two reasons, lack of awareness about legal issues and lack of money. With a view to make justice accessible to all, the Delhi State Legal Services Authority was set up under the State Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987. The Act was passed in order to ensure the mandate guaranteed under the Indian Constitution under Articles 14 and 39-A. The primary purpose is to ensure that each and every citizen gets access to the justice system and that no barrier, bet it lack of knowledge or money, comes in between justice and a citizen. The slogan of the Authority is “Access to Justice for all” and the Authority takes steps to ensure that justice is served to all sections of society especially the weak and downtrodden. The Authority also takes steps to spread awareness among citizens about legal rights and also provides help to the deprived class by offering grants for free legal aid. It also conducts legal awareness camps for citizens in different parts of Delhi and also organizes Legal Literacy programmes to promote awareness and knowledge about legal terms, issues and services. The Delhi State Legal Services Authority has set up legal services committees in various courts in Delhi so that the common man can avail of the legal services. Such committees are at the complexes of Saket Court, Dwarka Court, Rohini Court, Kakarduma Court, Patiala House Courts and also at Tis Hazari and Delhi High Court.
