Ministry Of Women And Child Development




It was in the year 1985 a department formed under the Ministry of Human Resource Development that worked towards the advancement of overall development of the women and children of the weaker section of the society was named as Department of Women and Child Development.This Department of Women and Child Development on the date 30th January 2006 was exalted to Ministry.

Mandate

The major directive of the formation of this Ministry was to motivate the development of the women and children. This department also support by designing plans and policies that could be implemented both by the government organization and non-government organization who work for the development of both women and children of the weaker section of the society. There are also several programs that were initiated by these organizations that could train the women so that they could generate some financial gain for themselves.The efforts of these policies were to make sure that women grow independent in all spheres that make the women both economically and socially grow.

Policy Initiatives

For the all-round development of the children the ministry has implemented a special program named Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) that is a complete program in itself since it provides children the required nutrition, vaccinations, regular complete body check-ups and the educational needs both at primary and higher level of education.These programs majorly are organized by the non-governmental organizations and government works for the co-ordination and monitoring of these activities by involving various NGOs.Few of the programs organized under the supervision of this department are ICDS and Kishori Shakti Yojana, implementation of nutritional programs for the young girls, creation of the commission that works for protecting the rights of children and also it works in the helping the rights of the women who suffer the domestic violence by implementing the Domestic Violence Act for the Protection of women.

Organization

The major proceedings and work control of Ministry of Women and Child Development is regulated by the Ministry of State (IC). The other hierarchy of the organization member includes Ms.Arun Kumar Jain who is the Secretary of the department and the Additional Secretaries of the Ministry of Women and Child Development are Mr. A.B. Joshi and Ms. Preeti Sudan. This ministry performs its activities along with the seven units that work under its sponsorship.The two units named NIPCCD and RMK have been working under this ministry under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. The other charitable organization CSWB has been registered under the section 25that falls under Indian Companies Act of 1956.These organizations receive their funds from the Government of India for their functioning.This department was made a legal body in year 1992 that works for the protection and defense for the women rights.The other legal body formed in year 2007 was National Commission for Protection of Child Rights that worked for securing of the child rights.
