Delhi Police Set Ups




The Delhi police department is divided into 6 ranges and 11 police districts. This aids in efficient management of entire region. For administrative and operational convenience steps such as these becomes extremely necessary. The ranges are headed by officer of the same rank as the Joint Commissioner of Police. The districts are presided by Additional Commissioner of Police or Deputy Commissioner of Police.

Each of the 11 districts is further subdivided into 11 Sub-Divisions and as many as 181 Police Stations. The sub divisions and police stations are overall under the jurisdiction of the Additional Commissioner of Police or Deputy Commissioner of Police. They, in turn, are assisted by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police.

A Sub-Division of District Police is headed by an officer of the same rank as that of the Assistant Commissioner of Police.Station House Officer [SHO] who is the highest ranked officer heading the Police Station.

The hierarchy is maintained in the department of justice to suit the needs of the citizens. The higher ranked officer should and must listen to the grievances of the citizens, if any, caused due to an officer at a lower rank.
