Scheme For Senior Citizens




A security cell has been formed by the Delhi Police for senior citizens on 20th June 2004, on the guidance and advice of Commissioner of Police Delhi and Honourable Lt. Governor. Even though every citizen has senior citizens scheme, it was still decide to formulate a Central Senior Citizens Security Cell. The objective of this body is to monitor matters that are related to the security and safety of the senior citizens in Delhi, as it is considered as a vulnerable category. Things are monitored under the supervision of the crime branch at the PHQ level.

Additional Commissioner of Police, Crime supervises directly the functioning of this cell. At present, this cell is looked after by the Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime. The coordination, advisory and monitoring work is also done by the Senior Citizens Security Cell, Police Head Quarter. Area police looks after the field work for senior citizens’ scheme in their independent areas along with help from NGOs, school children, community leaders etc.

Objective

  • Coordinating police verification by area police of domestic help.
  • Encourage regular social interaction of senior citizens in the neighbourhood.
  • Regular advice on the life style and physical ambience of senior citizens to introduce the required safety and security measures.
  • Help out senior citizens from their personal problems.
  • Advising the police in respective areas on the safety issues related to senior citizens in a given jurisdiction.
  • Field visits are organized for senior citizens to make them feel better with better sense of confidence and security.
  • Interact with senior citizens on phone on regular basis with the purpose of monitoring them.
  • Coordinate safety and security of senior citizens with the help of area police.

Remember

The senior citizens security cell is operating in all the 11 districts of Delhi Police along with at the PHQ level. Delhi Police registers all the single living senior citizens or with their spouse. They can also get them registered by calling at the given numbers: 23490233, 23490010 ext. No 4336, Helpline no. 1291 or 1091. You can also visit the website www.delhipolice.nic.in and get yourself registered or you can also visit the SHO / ACP / DCP office in your area. For your safety and security, you can contact them on telephone at any time of the day and ask for assistance. Local police staff and PHQ contact registered senior citizens through telephone on a regular basis. Complaints from senior citizens are sorted out on priority. The local police also conducts security audit of senior citizens. To handle distress calls, senior citizens have an exclusive helpline number 1291 (toll free).
