IGI Airport

Situated in the South Western corner of Delhi, the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) serves Delhi for domestic as well as international flights. It is located along the Delhi Gurgaon Expressway. At present, IGI is the busiest airport in South Asia and it recorded traffic of 20.44 million people in 2006-2007. It operates two terminals out of which terminal 1 is for domestic purposes while terminal 2 is for international connections.

A consortium led by GMR is responsible for the huge expansion and technological advancement that the airport is witnessing. With the inauguration of the new terminal T3 in 2010, Delhi became the city with the largest airport in India. It is the only Indian city with an airport of this size. Terminals 4, 5 and 6 will be built in phases. The airport is expected to have four runways by the year 2014. By that time, it will handle more than 100 million passengers each year, which is more than that handled by the world’s busiest airport, the Atlanta airport at present.
