Sarai Kale Khan ISBT

Kashmere Gate Inter State Bus Terminus was the oldest service that was operating in Delhi and connected with 7 nearby states. However, the passenger traffic became higher and higher on this line and in order to share some of the overload of passengers, during 1996, a new Inter-state bus terminus, Sarai Kale Khan was built at an estimated cost of 60crores INR. This terminus started its operations partially during 2005, however, it didn’t had enough potential to operate as a full-fledged bus network service. The main reason as to why this was constructed was to make some of the busiest stations in Delhi like Pragati Maidan accessible through metro trains. Nizammudin Railway station, that is equipped with all basic facilities, is connected well with Sarai Kale Khan inter- state bus terminus.

Since there are many long distance trains towards South Delhi from Hazrat Nizammudin Railway station, Sarai Kale Khan Inter-state bus terminus is visited by many passengers daily as it quite easy to go from here to the railway station.  It is also one of the bus depots operated by Delhi Transport Corporation, therefore services like Ring Road bus service (Mudrika Seva) and other critical routes are available from Sarai Kale Khan. As per the proposal of the 2nd phase of Delhi Metro Plan, Sarai Kale Khan and Jawaharlal Nehru stadium were connected through a new network. Also the current services of Mayur Vihar and INA colony (towards the east of Delhi) are likely to be extended in the second phase.
