Red Line

Delhi Metro had red line as its first line that was commenced to link Rithala that lies in the West to Dilshad Garden in the east. It covers a distance of twenty five kilometres. The line is somewhat elevated and somewhat at grade while crosses Yamuna River amidst Shastri Park and Kashmere Gate stations.

On 24th December 2002, the line saw its first inauguration at Tis Hazari and Shahdara but it resulted in collapse of the ticket system as the line was crowded with 4 times of the actual capacity by the people who were too eager to enjoy the ride.

The subsequent sections that were also inaugurated included from TriNagar (which is now called Inderlok) – Tis Hazari on 4th October 2003, then on 31st March 2004, it was inaugurated from Inderlok to Rithala and on 4th June 2008 from Shahdara to Dilshad Garden. This red line possesses 2 interchange stations, of which one is the Inderlok with green line and the other is Kashmere Gate with the yellow line. Commencing from 24th November 2013, additional six coached trains were to be included in a phased manner to the red line.
