Vigyan Bhavan

All functions that are held here are only at the national and international level.  Most of the dignified meetings like Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), Non-Alignment Movement (NAM) and SAARC summit – all were conducted in this convention centre. The management is entrusted to the Directorate of Estates.  It is under the supervision of the Ministry of Urban Development.

This premier conference centre was established in the year 1956. The centre contains excellent art and splendid ambience. This prestigious hall is situated at the Maulana Azad Road nearby India Gate and President’s Estate. The placement of this hall is a strategically important one enabling the travelers to visit the national museum, Gallery of Modern Art and other tourist destinations of Delhi. In addition, they can enjoy the lush green lawns that surround the area.

The architecture of the main building is designed and developed by R.I.Gehlolte in 1955. It resembles the British style along with Mughal and Hindu architecture. Visitors can notice the Buddhist style of architecture as can be seen in Ajanta caves.
