TFAI was originally incorporated in 1976 by combining the three organizations such as India International Trade fair organization, Indian Council of Trade Fairs and Exhibitions and Directorate of Exhibitions and Commercial Publicity.

• Management of trade fair complex in Pragati Maidan
• Trade fair organizing
• Holding trade fairs both in India and abroad
• Establishing contacts between Foreign buyers and Indian suppliers
• Involving state governments
• Research on trade promotion and export
