Delhi Gymkhana Club is one of the oldest clubs located in India. Only selected people can enrol as a member in this club and avail the immense facilities that are offered in this club. The club was established in 1913 at Coronation Grounds, Delhi. After the independence, several acres of land were allotted to the club. Currently, it is located on the Safdarjung Road. The club is mainly a sporting club because there are several grass courts within the premises of the club. The members have access to this club. In fact, the club boasts of largest numbers of grass courts in the country.

The club promotes tennis playing with active tennis membership and an active training Academy designed for the juniors. Delhi Gymkhana Club is known to have won national and international tennis and squash tournaments. Since, it is located in the midst of a residential area, tennis is carried out almost throughout the day. In addition to the courts, there is a swimming pool and solar heating facilities available only for the members throughout the year.

The club has a big dining hall along with bars and restaurants. In addition to that, there is a library, which is larger than the library of any other clubs in India. There are separate reading rooms for children and adults. There are even cottages so that members and their guests can stay here from any corner of the world.

There are many people who are interested in availing the membership of Delhi Gymkhana Club. However, there is certain criterion that should be fulfilled in order to be eligible as a member here. Any individual should not be less than 21 years of age. There is a membership application form available at the club, which should be filled and submitted to the club. The application should be submitted along with a demand draft or cash of Rs 50000 for government applicants and Rs 100000 for non-government applicants. The governing body of the club keeps on changing after regular sessions. It is the member of the governing bodies that will consider different factors in order to grant membership to a particular individual. The existing members are mainly a mix of bureaucrats, armed forces personnel, diplomats and civil servants. Once the application is registered, members can be eligible to get access to the facilities that are available here. People who have a special interest in sports can avail the membership in order to get some of the best facilities that are not available in any other clubs in Delhi or in India.

Different Facilities

Both residential and non-residential Indians are eager to avail the membership of Delhi Gymkhana Club. This is because of the broad range of facilities available here. There are about 43 transit cottages in the club enabling members to stay here. These rooms are given to the members of the club and to the affiliated members if booked in advance. However, any kinds of meals are not provided in the cottages. The guests need to go to the dining halls in order to complete their meals.

There is a health club with some of the most modernized health equipment to help members lead a healthy life. The members can also enjoy swimming or playing cards, billiards, squash, tennis etc. in addition to that, game training programs are available for kids at affordable rates. In order to play different types of games like cards and billiards, booking has to be made in advance in order to ensure availability. The numbers of tables and equipments in different game rooms vary. Based on that, specific booking is made. There are specific charges for different durations of playing games. Guest charges are however separate.

As far as the restaurants are concerned, the members can get plenty of dining options here. Members can get lunch from 1.00 to 2.30 pm and dinner from 8 pm to 10.30 pm. Indian, continental and Chinese dishes are available in these restaurants. Apart from the dining hall, there is a Kashmiri Lounge restaurant, family dining room, oriental lounge and a pastry counter, café coffee day, main bar, terrace bar and cocktail bar.
