Siri Fort Auditorium

Siri fort is in the Siri area of New Delhi, it was mainly constructed for the purpose of protection from enemies of other states. Siri was the second largest around the seven cities of New Delhi. It was built by Ala-ud-Din Khilji who was the sultan of Delhi at that time period. In the past, people with him suffered greatly from Mongols and hence to avoid such happenings this fort was constructed.

Actually, this covers a wide area of about 1303 acres of land and it was entirely constructed by the hands of Muslims. Now this massive protective fencing is very much damaged and lasts in small range as remains. At present, there are many other buildings that are commercially built for people around this fort.

The name Siri was given to the fort because of hanging several heads of Mongol soldiers over the wall. This is because Siri refers as ‘head’ in Hindi. It is situated near to Shahpur Jat village, therefore, it is very near from Qutub Minar. There is only a 5 km distance between these two buildings.

It adds pride to the city because of the palace that is present outside of the fort limits. In addition, this palace contains about 1000 pillars which are called the Hazar Sutan. This palace was built with marble floors and other stone decorations over it. Designers of this palace implemented their great innovations in it, loop holes for arrows, bastions, flame shaped battlements and beautifully decorated doors. Water supply in Siri fort is actually got from a supply system with a reservoir at Hauz Khas Complex. Sultan Ala-ud-din also built Quwwatul-Islam Mosque near Qutub complex. It was initially designed to be built in double the size of Qutub Minar, but due to the death of sultan in 1316, this plan was left half completed.
