ICCR Auditorium

When the Indian Council for Cultural Relations or ICCR was founded in 1950, under the lookout of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, it was a great step towards bringing together the diverse culture of India under one roof and platform. Earlier, the ICCR was meant for exchange of different cultural information, knowledge and talent among the country and various other foreign delegates. In 2009, the ICCR auditorium was inaugurated to enable the conduct of different cultural events from Indians as well as from outside. The aim of the council was to foster the cultural relationship of India with other countries and allow for exchange of the policies regarding the external cultural knowledge. India has always been the centre of cultural development and heritage and these features have been well preserved since many centuries now.

Founder Members of ICCR

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was responsible for the formation of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, along with the active support of many other Indian leaders. Azad was the Education Minister of the Independent India at that time, when ICCR took form. Leaders like Rabindranath Tagore also had strong associations with this organisation, which also aimed to develop and infuse a sense of patriotism and Indian-ness among the youths of the modern India.

Objectives of ICCR Auditorium

In order to commemorate and strengthen the cultural relations of India with other prominent countries in the world and among the people, the ICCR auditorium has a major role to play. Even though the organisation of ICCR had been founded since 1950, it was in 2009 that the ICCR auditorium was finished and started functioning as an important location for various cultural programmes and events. It gave wings to the primary objectives of the formation of ICCR, as the auditorium became a venue for showcasing the cultural scenario of India and helped in exchange of thoughts and ideas between people of various countries.

Cultural events in different categories of performing arts were encouraged by the ICCR, giving the auditorium as a great venue for the artists to perform during various festivities and commemorative events. The auditorium also allowed training sessions and recitals prior to the actual event. Exhibitions were also one of the most important features of the ICCR auditorium, where people from different cultural backgrounds and artistic skills congregated to put forth a variety of performing arts and shows for the audiences. The objectives of ICCR were many and presently, these objectives have become easier to be fulfilled by the formation of the auditorium, as it has taken the artistic encouragements ahead.
