New Delhi boasts of one of world’s most expensive residential areas - Vasant Vihar, an exclusive neighbourhood located in the South West of the New Delhi area. It is the world’s 16th most expensive residential area. It is the home and work place for notable personalities like international sports shooter, Vikram Bhatnagar and the Sikh Empire Royal family descendants.

Munirka Marg, Paschimi Marg and Poorvi Marg are the main areas in Vasant Vihar. The eastern and western street along with Palam Marg and Vasant enclave form a rough triangle that encloses much of the neighbourhood. The area primarily consists of residential buildings and bungalows spread across 6 blocks A to F according to the initial plan of development. Every block has a personalized local market and other basic facilities. One of the most expensive real estate lands in NCR region is found in Palam Marg.

Historic Monuments and Places of Worship

Historic monuments from the Mughal era are found in Vasant Vihar, along with a historic Church. The Uttara Swami Malai Temple is located at the edge of the neighbourhood, across the outer ring road, on a small hillock.

Vasant Vihar is the home for two well known markets of the NCR region, namely Vasant Vihar Market and Basant Lok Market. These markets provide all the luxurious facilities to the residents of Vasant Vihar, and also attract a large group of customers from other areas of the NCR region.

Schools

Vasant Vihar has many schools that follow the British education standards with their primary language being English and Hindi being the second language. Schools like Modern School, The Shri Ram School, Delhi Public School, Tagore International School, etc., are all located in Vasant Vihar.

Community Life

Vasant Vihar has a community centre called ‘Kalyan Kendra’, run by the Residents Welfare Associations (RWA). The apex governing body is elected to office by the residents after every 5 years. The responsibility of this body is to take charge of all the welfare activities for the neighbourhood residents. Various programmes are conducted by this body during festive season for the welfare of the people living in the neighbourhood.

The Vasant Vihar Club is the community club located on 88 Paschimi Marg. The club has several sports and health centres, like a fully equipped gym, full sized swimming pool and dedicated areas for other sports like badminton, squash, table tennis, snooker, clay tennis and billiards. There are card rooms and a huge library, which has a wide range of books from renowned authors. The club also has a well serviced bar, two restaurants and a modern bakery. Various festivals like Holi, Baisakhi and Diwali are organized and celebrated by the members of this club. Other social events like rain dance parties, live band music and Bingo parties on Sundays are also organized for the club members and their guests at a nominal charge.

How to Reach

There are 4 major taxi stands in addition to radio cabs. There are 6 bus stops for route number 56 and 623.

  • Future prospects: The area will soon have a metro station that will connect Vasant Vihar to the Phase III line of the Delhi Metro. The location of this metro station will be near F-block, which will have exits for F-block residents and the Basant Shopping Mall Complex.
