Tilak Nagar is located in the capital of India, New Delhi. It is located in the suburban area of West Delhi and lies at a distance of seventeen kilometers from New Delhi railway station and twenty-three kilometers from Indira Gandhi International airport. The Delhi Metro connects Tilak Nagar to Connaught place, which makes the life of commuters quite easy. Availability of public transport facilities has made it easy for the residents to travel across Delhi with ease. Tilak Nagar is connected to other areas of Delhi by taxi, auto rickshaw, bus and the metro. 

Tilak Nagar mainly consists of Punjabi Hindus, Rawalpindi Sikhs and Pishori Sikhs. These Sikhs are the post-independence migrants from the Pishori and Rawalpindi areas of Pakistan. The constituency of Tilak Nagar is made up of Chand Nagar, Vishnu Garden, Ashok Nagar, Fateh Nagar, Chowkhandi, Virendra Nagar, Shiv Nagar, Shahpura, Mukherjee Park and Sant Nagar. The landmark of this constituency is a Gurudwara located on the 20th block of Tilak Nagar.

It also has an industrial area known as 'khayalla', and supports two hospitals and multiple medical facilities and pharmacies, for the welfare of the people living in this area.

The Central Market in Tilak Nagar, West Delhi, is quite famous for various Indian goods. It is congested but cozy and does not have a McDonalds, Fab India or other such brands, instead, it offers local products on a large scale. It has a feel of a small town Indian market and sells Indian products that are consumer durables. The specialty of this market is the wide range of its Punjabi wedding collection. This collection consists of Chura (bangles), Lawn Suit (Indian dress), Pagri (Punjabi Turban), Kangna (Bangles), currency garlands, etc.

After all the shopping, when your stomach gets a bit hungry, the best Chole Bhature of the entire Tilak Nagar area is available at reasonable rates in this market on the Gurudwara road. 

What Is Tilak Nagar Famous For

Jarnail Singh, a candidate from the recently formed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), stood for the Tilak Nagar Vidhan Sabha elections in 2013 and emerged victorious. This was a bitter-sweet shock for the public because a BJP candidate, who has had a strong hold in the area for decades was defeated. This victory highlighted the image of Tilak Nagar and made it one of the most politically prestigious areas in New Delhi.

The 'Glory of Delhi' award was won by the Resident Welfare Association of Tilak Nagar East. The awards show was organized by Times of India where Mr. Anil Khanna and Mr. J.P.S. Jolly, the President and Sr. Vice President of the Resident Welfare Association respectively were the people who received the award of behalf of the association.
