The Okhla Sabzi Mandi was established in 1987 and was developed by DDA (Delhi Development Authority) and went to the control of Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee. This Mandi encompasses an area of more than 10 Acres and is a house to over 300 shops which sell various fruits and vegetables. Whoever wants to buy fresh green groceries and that too at throwaway prices comes to the Okhla Sabzi Mandi starting at 5 AM in the morning. There are various vigorous activities buzzing here till late night.

Shopping

In the mid of chaotic streets, there are vendors moving here and there as well as shopkeepers shouting the prices of their products as well as loudspeakers playing Namaaz i.e. Islamic prayers along with occasional fights taking place between the customers and the vendors. As one visit there, there would be a blue coloured board visible which reads “Fruit & Vegetable Market Sub-Yard, Okhla” and is commonly known as Okhla Sabzi Mandi.

Okhla market is known for an array of vegetables and fresh fruits. It is regarded as one of the largest markets of vegetable in Delhi and has also been the focal point of distribution of vegetables to the other markets in South Delhi.

Shopkeepers at Okhla Sabzi Mandi work hard and try their level best for catering to the needs of their regular and beloved customers. They are so much dedicated that selling fruits and vegetables has become a family occupation for many of them.

How to Reach

Situated in Okhla Industrial Estate, one may reach there by a taxi, a car, a bus or even 2 and 3 wheelers. The best way for getting there would be by opting for metro, the closest metro station is the station of Kalkaji Mandir situated on Violet Line.
