Hauz Khas

Historic Hauz Khas village located in South Delhi may appear a bit scruffy at the edges with irreversibly tangled wires and crumbling street, but you may not find any other spot in Delhi as funkier as Hauz Khas to eat, shop or to simply enjoy.

The heart of Hauz Khas is the historic and highly popular Hauz Khas complex which is centrally located and offers an amazing amalgamation of rural and urban environments. This complex dates back much before the establishment of the city of New Delhi. It houses tow major hospitals of Delhi, namely, Safdarjung Hospital and AIIMS. Two of the largest green areas of Delhi including Rose Garden and Deer Park are also housed by Hauz Khas. This place is also significant from educational point of view as its houses two of the renowned educational institutes including IIT Delhi and National Institute of Fashion Technology, Delhi. Hauz Khas is also famous for its historic connection as it bears some of the landmarks belonging to Khilji Dynasty. These subsume a Tomb, a Mosque and a Royal Tank known as Hauz Khas Lake.

Shopping

When Bina Ramani set up a boutique in Hauz Khas in 1988, it acted as the starting point of setting up of numerous ethnic shops and showrooms in this small but one of the most affluent neighbourhoods of Delhi. Hauz Khas offers a unique shopping experience to its visitors with a broad spectrum of Indian ethnic clothing, handicrafts, carpets and many more and probably this is the reason why it is known as “the national capital of ethnic chic”. Right from the designer clothing to the ethnic clothes inspired by ancient civilizations, you can find everything here in abundance.

In the last decade, many of the designers, musicians, foodies, travellers, map makers and carpet makers have set up in this locality of Old Delhi which make it an amazing place to shop a wide variety of stuff at astonishing prices.
