One of the significant functions of MCD or Municipal Corporation of Delhi is property tax collection and to make it convenient for citizens to pay their taxes on time and without any hassles, MCD has set up tax collection centres at various places in Delhi.

MCD Property Tax Collection Centres

The following are the authorized MCD property tax collection centres:

  • ITZ Cash Outlets
  • HDFC Bank Branches

ITZ Cash Outlets present at various locations in Delhi offer tax payers the facility of prepaid payment system and hence tax payers can pay the tax whenever they want.
HDFC Bank Branches, the trusted partners of Municipal Corporation Delhi, come second in the list of MCD property tax collection centres.

Collection Reviews and Facts

April 2011 was a landmark for MCD as for the first time it managed an increase of 29.5% in property tax collection and collected a whooping Rupees 1500 Crore. Key features of this landmark collection are as follows:

  • Rupees 772 Crore were collected from property tax.
  • Rupees 728 Crore were collected from transfer duty tax.
  • Transfer Duty tax, the amount collected by Delhi Government when buying or selling of property, in 2010 was only Rupees 460 Crore.
  • Total amount collected in 2010 as tax collection was Rupees 1158 Crore, estimated by civic agency in Delhi, Special settlement schemes introduced by Government was cited as one of the reasons for this increase.
  • With an increase of 5.5% in tax payers, 10.4 lakh people were registered as paying taxes in the year 2011.

The increase in MCD property tax collection has also put forth the need to have more authorized MCD property tax collection centres so that more tax payers can pay the taxes conveniently. As the Delhi Government has agreed to this proposal, there will be more MCD property tax collection centres in Delhi soon.
