Chhattisgarh Themed 29th Surajkund Mela Begins

Suraj Kund Mela is organized by Haryana Tourism by joining hands with Department of Tourism, Ministry of Tourism and Culture. This Mela was first organized in 1981 and later on continued with outstanding participation of craftsmen and skilled artists from all over the world to showcase their art work and skilled crafts that depict their rich tradition and culture. Suraj Kund Mela bring alive all traditionally rich Indian products in a perfect rural setting. This Mela is organized with a special theme every year. This year, the theme of Suraj Kund Mela is Chattisgarh.

This year Suraj Kund Mela 2015 is celebrated from February 1st to 15th. The entire festival turns out to be amazingly colorful with various stalls exhibiting craft items and handlooms along with pottery, ivory work, wood stock, textiles, paintings, lacquer work, stone work, grass work, cane work, mirror embroidery work and many more. Apart from the display of various artifacts one can have enjoy musical evenings and theatre workshops. The entire program can be enjoyed with delicious and lip smacking authentic rural cuisine.

Suraj Kund Mela is organized in the month of February every year around the Sun or Kund Pool with an interesting and unique theme. This fort night interesting Mela bring together painters, metal workers, wood carvers, weavers, potters etc… who displayed distinct performance in their ancestral skills across India.

The crowd is also entertained with magic shows, music, acrobats, folk dance and various other entertaining performances in an open air theatre. There is also space for some sports activities like rock climbing, water sports, golf and polo in Surajkund complex. The most famous and frequently participating Mela groups include Been Sapera & Banchari from Haryana, Bhangra from Punjab, Brij Ki Holi & Charkula from Uttar Pradesh, Siddi Goma from Gujarat, Kaal Belia from Rajasthan, Egyptian Tannoura Dance, Tajik Dances and Thai Traditional Dances.

Suraj Kund Mela 2015 is not only for cultural exhibitions but also for mouth watering culinary adventure. There will be a mini food gala with outstanding delicacies all over India. One can taste North Indian and South Indian food, Indo-Chinese food, Spiced snacks, rice etc…

Chattisgarh, the theme of Suraj Kund Mela showcases its specialty in arts and crafts during this 29th SurajKund International Crafts Mela 2015.
