161 Flights Affected and Several Trains Cancelled as Fog Envelops Delhi

The last Monday of December 2014 saw the citizens of Delhi shivering as the Delhi temperature was recorded at a record low of 2.6degrees Celsius, the coldest of the season and at least five degrees below the normal temperature. Fog in Delhi has always been quite thick; however the month of December witnessed an unusually thick cover of fog that has been enveloping the city in the recent past.

This thick layer of fog in Delhi has sent travel plans of citizens and tourists into a dizzy, as around 161 flights were delayed and several trains were called off due to very poor visibility factor. In the morning hours, the visibility on the runways was only up to 50m; hence lots of flights were rescheduled. According to the latest release from the meteorological department, the Delhi temperature would be extremely cold for a few more days and would slowly subside by the mid of January when the temperatures would become slightly normal.
