The National Capital of India, Delhi has a rich heritage of being the capital city for many Kingdoms that ruled India throughout the past. The stories pass down the generations through storytellers and in modern times, one can see the juxtaposed difference in Delhi’s culture where on one hand there are skyscrapers and advanced metro transport systems while on other hand, there are ruined monuments witnessing the changes.

Delhi Heritage Walks

Sohail Hashmi who is filmmaker, history buff and a writer organizes the Heritage Walk in Delhi and covers over 19 such walks around the city. The burial place of Razia Sultan, the first lady ruler of Delhi accompanied by grave of her sister Shajia is one of the heritage sites that carry untold stories of the past. The stories like many monuments lie forgotten in the memory lanes of age and lack of authentic details even in ASI. The ruins of Mehrauli, Adilabad, Tughlaqabad are some of the heritage sites covered to preserve the Delhi’s culture in 21st Century.

Significance of Heritage walks

Hashmi started organizing the heritage walks around Delhi in 2004 with children who are not aware of the heritage. Since, he himself reads Urdu; he was able to access as much records as were available through various sources. Heritage walk in Delhi pages are created on social networking sites like Facebook wherein the interested folks can access information about the schedules.
