Delhi Traffic Police Launches SMS Traffic Alerts

Sep 03, 2015 | D. Sethi

Delhi traffic police has come up with an innovative idea of SMS alert service delivering information about traffic diversions, road blocks, accidents, water logging status and traffic jams. The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has offered one year free SMS service to Delhi traffic police as an initiative.

The Delhi commuters can make use of this service of traffic SMS alerts in Delhi by sending an SMS in ‘S DTP Username” format to 9811452220 for which they will get a confirmation message from Delhi Traffic Police’s SMS Alert Service. The service will start in less than 24 hours in the form of SMS alerts. If anyone wishes to unsubscribe from this service, they can send an SMS in ‘S REM’ format to same number.

There is no specific count on SMS alerts received from traffic police but it is a very good initiative for people who don’t possess Smartphones with them. Smartphone users are capable to get all this information with Google Now or Map apps. The Traffic police know this very well and hence they offer more or less similar services in Android app, Facebook, Twitter and Whatsapp as well.

Apart from these services, Delhi Traffic Police’s SMS Alert Service also helps to register vehicles and know about pending notices that are in court or in notice branch. This service is also useful to get complete details about vehicle ownership; however this feature is only for cops. Earlier in 2012, such type of Traffic SMS Alerts in Delhi was already introduced by Delhi Traffic Police with the help of a Private Organization in order to check its viability. Such type of facility will be highly beneficial for people who spend most of their time travelling in busy Delhi roads.
