5 Delhi Metro Stations to Get Wi-Fi Facility

In line with Prime minister’s dream to make internet penetration in villages too, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has put a first step towards achieving this. The DMRC has entered into a Memorandum of understanding with the RailTel Corporation of India for providing Wi-Fi Facility in Delhi Metro.

First Phase to have only five metro stations wi-fi enabled

Stations located in Kashmere Gate, Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Hauz Khas and Vishwavidyalaya. The decision as to providing the services free or at cost will be taken up later. In the initial phase, the RailTel will conduct surveys and take up installation of required support equipment for the proposed plan of making Delhi Metro Stations Wi-Fi Enabled. Going forward, the facility may also be extended within the trains.

Modalities agreed in MoU

The Memorandum of understanding to make Delhi Metro Stations Wi-Fi Enabled was signed at Metro Bhavan in a humble ceremony in the presence of DMRC’s Managing Director Mangu Singh and chairman and Managing Director R K Bahuguna of RailTel Corporation.

The MoU contemplates putting in place the necessary infrastructure and it will be responsibility of RailTel to maintain and provide working modalities for the proposed Wi-Fi Facility in Delhi Metro. The MoU is a first step in providing internet access through wi-fi facility in public palce of Metro stations in capital of India, New Delhi.
