Odd Even Car Scheme - Perfect push for clean air

Delhi government has come up with a new scheme – odd even car rule which shall be tested for 2 week duration with effect from 1st January. Any individual breaking this rule would have to pay fine of INR 2000 or even more. In order to make sure of maximum coverage of this compliance government is focusing on extension of scope of Motor Vehicle Act which presently is applicable on commercial vehicles but would now be applied on private ones also. This would support the scheme.

As per section 194 of aforementioned act, timings or entry as well as exit in Delhi are limited for commercial vehicles such as trucks etc. The discussion is on for applying this logic and restricting timings for private vehicles also. This act can be put in implementation phase merely by issuing a notice. Non adherence to the act will push the person to be liable to pay INR 2000. But it pulls from other sections too, like 115 which empowers our government to limit the operation of vehicles of particular classes in specific areas considering the safety and convenience of public.

Government is still considering the proposal of higher penalty which is proposed by the officials. The law and transport department is considering motor vehicles act with Delhi’s traffic police for creating compliance of the odd even car rule. As per government rule, private cars will have restricted access to roads from 8 am to 8 pm from Monday to Saturday. This scheme is being introduced to curb pollution. The vehicles with even numbers shall run on even dates and odd on odd dates. If the present legal provisions do not serve the purpose, additional ones can be brought in for pollution is becoming a big concern for human beings, particularly Delhi citizens. The push for clean air by Delhi government no doubt is justified.
