World Tourism Day sees Many Festivities in Delhi

On account of World Tourism Day on the 27th of September 2015, the national capital of Delhi witnessed many tourism-related initiatives from its Tourism Ministry. Mr. Kapil Mishra, Tourism Minister for the Government of Delhi, announced the following initiatives:

  • Free Wi-Fi Zone at Dilli Haat centres
  • Cycle tours covering heritage monuments in Delhi
  • Cultural performances by police personnel
  • Complementary tours for differently-abled tourists
  • Street food stalls prepared by students of Delhi Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology
  • Traditional welcome at the Tourism Ministry’s Information Centres
  • Festive decoration of all these information centres across Delhi

Free Wi-Fi zone

On World Tourism Day, Dilli Haat at INA was declared as a Wi-Free Zone for the first 20 minutes and the rates then increased based on the duration in which users browsed internet. Vodafone was chosen as the partner for this initiative.

Cycle Tours

As part of the Tourism Day initiative, the Tourism Ministry of Delhi joined hands with DTTDC (Delhi Transport and Travel Development Corporation) to organise cycle tours for interested tourists. Heritage monuments in Delhi that built during the Delhi Sultanate and Mughal Era were covered as part of this tour.

Cultural Performances

Police and paramilitary personnel performed at music and cultural events held at Dilli Haats across Delhi.

Free Tours

The Tourism Ministry organised free tours and provided escorts for differently-abled and visually impaired tourists who were interested to learn about Delhi.

Food Stalls

Students of Delhi Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology prepared authentic street food and served it for tourists at affordable rates.

Traditional Welcome

Guests and tourists visiting various Tourist Information Centres across Delhi were received warmly and given a ceremonial welcome as part of the celebrations.

Decorations

All of these tourist information centres wore a grand look on the 27th of September as staff members decorated their respective offices with colourful balloons and flowers.
