April 18, 2015 | M. Islam

With the onset of summers the Government in Delhi has declared to raise the water tariffs in Delhi by 10 percent for the households who consume water more than 20000 litres each month. The charges will be applicable on the amount for the water used above 20000 litres per month for each household.

Delhi Government lately declared no water charges for the household consuming up to 20000 litres of water each month that have metered connection. With the implementation of this plan Delhi Jal Board had to suffer lost revenue and hence to compensate the same Delhi Jal Board took the step of increasing the Water Tariffs in Delhi for the households who consume more than 20000 litres of waters. This implementation has been come into force a month after the Government in Delhi declared free water for Delhi residents.

The raised charges would be applicable only for the billing cycle after 1st April, 2015 for the water consumption beyond 20000 litres. The proposal to raise the tariffs was taken up in the 121st board meeting of Delhi Jal Board and was immediately approved for implementation. The people who consume less than 20000 litres of water each month would not be affected by this hike.
