Delhi Metro, world’s thirteenth largest Metro system in terms of length and is India’s first modern rapid transit system, registering a continuous increase in ridership since July 2014 and the ridership figure is creating new records ever since then.

Today, 70% of the Delhi metro commuters use smart cards. But the remaining 30% still go by tokens standing in long queues wasting time.

Presently, Delhi Metro requires approximately 7 lakh coins on daily basis; it tries its best to make the maximum change available at the stations, however, only 4-4.5 lakh coins are made available for supply creating a huge gap between demand and supply. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has opened Exact Change Counters at stations to encourage passengers to bring exact ticket amount while purchasing tokens.

These Exact Change Counters at stations are 20 in number as of now. It is a step towards avoiding unnecessary queuing up and waiting time. Only those passengers who bring exact change to buy tokens for their destinations will be entertained at the Exact Change Counters, says Delhi Metro in a statement. List of stations with Exact Change Counters are: New Delhi, Chandni Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, R.K Ashram Marg, Jahangirpuri, Shahdara, Anand Vihar, Vaishali, Noida City Centre, Dilshad Garden, Kashmiri Gate, Badarpur, AIIMS, Saket, M.G Road, Huda City Centre, Seelampur, Karol Bagh, Uttam Nagar East and Dwarka Mor. The List of stations with Exact Change Counters will have more stations added if the ridership figure goes up the way it is going now.
