Delhi to Go to Poll on Feb 7, 2015

The Election Commission the regulatory watchdog of free and fair electionsin India announced the polling date as February 7th 2015 for the National Capital Delhi. The Commission consisting of the full bench announced the polling schedule with last date for filing nominations as January 21st and the results will be announced on February 10th (3 days after the election date). The Political parties however expressed dissatisfaction that atleast a months’ time was supposed to be given between the announcement date and election date, but the Election commission said that since the polls were anticipated for a very long time, 21 days’ notice should be sufficient. The State of Delhi which is under Presidential Rule after Arvind Kejriwal resigned within 49 days of assuming office of Chief Minister, is set to expire on February 15th. Now with polling results of elections in Delhi all set to be announced on February 10th, the new government will be formed much before the last date. In the scheduled polling on Feb 7, over 1.3 crore Delhites will cast their mandate to elect 70 representatives to the State Assembly of Delhi from the various constituencies.

The AAP, BJP and the Congress parties are have already started campaigning to get into power. For the upcoming polling on Feb 7, Congress has announced 24 candidates, BJP is yet to release the tentative list of its candidates. With the latest announcement of Election Commission, the model of code of conduct comes into effect immediately from January 14th. As per the reports, the arrangements are in place to check the money power voting in Delhi. Also since there are no other elections taking place across the country, the whole focus of the political parties rests on winning the elections in Delhi.
