The Delhi High Court slammed the State Government of Delhi in failing to control the ever increasing air pollution. The Air Pollution in Delhi, as per the Bench of Judges is clearly visible in Civil Lines and the IGI Airport. Observing from the report filed by Vasudev, the Bench, who themselves are the victims of Delhi Pollution said that t matter is contributing to the increasing levels of pollution.

The court was also unhappy that the Central Pollution Control Board was not represented by advocate and so was the Centre. Hence, the Court directed that both these bodies are properly represented at the next hearing along with a concrete plan from the State Government and Pollution Control Board. The Court was interested in knowing the reason behind lack of remedial measures for control of Air Pollution in Delhi and took suo motu cognizance of the pollution problem prevalent in the State.

In the Vasudev report, shrinking of forests was pointed out to be the main reason for Delhi Pollution. It was observed that resulting in increasing number of areas being de-notified, the forest cover has come down by 15%. The advocate pleaded to the Court to direct the Health and Welfare Ministry to formulate programmes, plans and policies to enhance the healthcare facilities thus increasing the life expectancy and quality of life.
