March 26, 2015 | Rakesh

Delhi Metro has decided to install platform screen doors at 6 different metro stations. Installation work of 1.7 meter high glass doors have already begun at the Chawri Bazar Metro Station. Delhi Metro Platform Gates come up as a precautionary measure to avoid mishaps at the alarmingly crowded Metro Stations in Delhi. A total of eleven suicides have been reported within the metro network last year and three so far this year.

The design and related theory work has been completed and the ways to install the Delhi Metro Platform Gates without any malfunctions on the platforms is going on. A lot of integration is required from various constituents of the Delhi Metro as these platform doors can be installed only during non-operating or non-revenue hours of the DMRC, which is three hours in the night.

These doors will lead to maximum utilization of the platform space as people will not stand scattered as they do now and will attract revenue as there will be provisions for advertisement panels on it. By the end of this year Metro Stations in Delhi namely Kashmere Gate, Chandni Chowk, New Delhi, Rajiv Chowk and Central Secretariat will have these platform screen doors installed.
