Delhi Metro increases train services to offer respite during rush hours

Aug 10, 2015 | Vidhya

It was recently found out that close to 25 lakh people use the Delhi Metro trains every day to commute to and from work. In the four period between 2010 and 2014, these trains have witnessed close to 70% increase in the number of coaches (640 to 1076), just because of the demand especially during peak hours in Delhi. In this period, the four-coach trains that ran on the busy Yellow Line and Blue Line sectors too were converted to 6 and 8 coach trains respectively.

Since new commuters start using the Delhi Metro trains every year during the months of August – September, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has decided to increase 8 new trains on all the lines from 3rd August onwards. This will continue till end of September and might be extended based on the feedback and passenger comfort they provide. In order to provide respite for lakhs of passengers during peak hours in Delhi, two additional trains will be added on the Yellow, Blue and Violet Lines and one train each would be added on the Red and Green Lines. The Metro Rail Corporation of Delhi hopes that with this increase, the number of commuters who use the metro trains in Delhi would increase drastically for these two months.
