Highly convenient and easy transportation mode in national capital, Delhi Metro is set to run 70 extra trips every day while the city undergoes its odd-even trial. While doing so, the largest rider will increase its daily trips to 3,192 thereafter. It is expected to bring some frequency increase in trains running to ensure that expected passenger rushes is managed carefully.

The additional trips have been distributed with effective plan to run through Red, Blue, Yellow and Orange which is also Airport Express metro lines that will have 12, 11, 17 and 30 additional rides now. As the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) data reveals total trips until November was 3,122 earlier.

With its 220-trains fleet, DMRC has plans for use of 198 daily trains for target fulfilment. A metro official said that "it is planned to ensure maximum number of trains as per feasibility to operate to cater to the passenger needs in a particular period by lessening essential maintenance reserves."

The Blue Line or Line 3/4 to link Dwarka with Noida City Centre is expected to have highest frequency of trains at train availability every 2 minutes 30 seconds in peak hours from 9 to 10 AM. The Line 2 to connect Samaypur Badli with Huda City Centre in Gurgaon will have train frequency of 2 minutes 18 seconds now.

As it is planned the off-peak hour train rides from 11 AM to 5 PM would be 2 minutes and 42 seconds intervals on the Blue Line but for Yellow Lines the interval would be of 2 minutes and 40 seconds.

DMRC authorities have already started exploring options to organise extra shifts of guards and customer facilitation agents at stations to ensure better service through extra manpower facility. Increased load on ticketing system needs to be handled carefully.

It was on August 28 that the highest ever ridership of DMRC happened for the first time with more than 32 lakhs through 196 trains operation.

Delhi Government took this essential step with an aim to curb the upsetting air pollution. The major step in this regard is restricting private cars with odd and even registration numbers through alternation to function since 1st of next year.
