Cancellation of Swaraj Parv by Delhi Government -Rains to be Blamed
August 13, 2015 | P. Shenoy
The Delhi Government has earlier announced that the Independence Day would be celebrated as “Swaraj Parv” giving it the Indian Hindi touch. However, the same was cancelled citing the bad weather as the reason. The incessant rains have apparently forced the Delhi Government to call off the planned three-day celebrations on the occasion of Independence Day.
Planned Events for the Swaraj Parv
The 3-day programme was to begin at Connaught Place on 14th August on the eve of Independence Day and conclude on 16th August with a tribute to former President Late A P J Abdul Kalam. The tribute would also include tribute to late martyrs by Lt Governor Najeeb Jung on 14th August and the Urdu poetry titled Shaam-e-kalam on 16th August.
Chief Minister Avind Kejriwal was also supposed to address the gathering at 6.30 p.m. Even tender was floated to select a company to organize the programme.
Rumours surrounding the Cancellations
If news is to be believed, the Delhi Police did not accord permission on the apprehension of law and order problems ahead of Independence Day. Reacting strongly, the Delhi Government official raised concerns that similar occasion organized by LGs office had police approval but the same police denied approval to an elected government.
