Now, people can utilize their Smartphone in order to hire an auto rickshaw in New Delhi with the help of a new app called 'Pooch-O' that has been introduced by Delhi's Lieutenant Governor (LG) Mr. Najeeb Jung.

Pooch-O has been developed by the Delhi Integrated Multi-Model Transit System (DIMTS) that will permit Android users to know the location of GPS-equipped auto rickshaws closest to them and call their driver. The numbers of the drivers will be registered with DIMTS on cell phones and easily book a trip.

Users need to assure that the GPS is on in their mobile phone and can locate an auto closest to them with the help of Maps.

Introducing Pooch-O at his office, Najeeb Jung said this is a very advanced technology that will be extremely useful, particularly for ladies travelling by auto rickshaw at night.

He further added that after booking auto with the app, people can easily share their travel details and other information on Twitter and Facebook so that their family members and friends can know about their travel locations. Apart from this, there are many security elements present in this app.

Najeeb Jung also said commuters can easily give their feedback about their travels in auto rickshaw on Pooch-O app.

According to Mr. SN Sahai, who is the managing director of DIMTS, Pooch-O users can easily calculate approximated fare for their journey and can even track the auto rickshaw to check if the auto is really coming towards their location or not after intimating its driver. Pooch-O will soon be accessible on iPhone as well. Auto drivers will be benefited with Pooch-O as they can have passengers easily.

Sahai further added that that there are some 24,000 auto rickshaws in the national capitol that are fixed with GPS and anticipate that more auto rickshaws will be fitted with useful GPS so that more and more commuters can be benefitted with this unique app.

According to Additional CP (traffic) Mr. Anil Shukla, who was present at the event, if an auto rickshaw driver rejected to take or accept Pooch-O users, he will then be punished with a hefty fine.
The LG said that traffic police of New Delhi will be required to connect this useful app to its official website so that if an auto rickshaw driver refuses to take commuters in the national capitol without any valid reason, then strict action will be initiated against them.
