In Govt. Schools, Syllabus Up to Class VIII Reduced by 25%

School going children of Delhi are likely to have a big relief with the proposed reduction of syllabus. As per the announcement by Education Minister Manish Sisodia, about 25% of the obsolete and outdated syllabus forming part of Education of Delhi will be removed and will be replaced with all-round development focused syllabus.

Focus on Skill Development

The Minister viewed that the heavy school bags have been burdening the children big time which is compromising on the future of children. The issue was under discussion since long time and concrete decision on this matter is taken by the Delhi Government. Effective October this year, all students of Delhi Government Schools upto class VIII will have reduced syllabus thereby giving ample scope for them to spare time for activities which are crucial for their all-round development. Similar reduction of syllabus for classes IX to XIII is also contemplated for the next academic year.

The syllabus for Education of Delhi will be replaced with music, sports and arts which are aimed at skill development of the school going children who will be relieved from carrying the heavy school bags.

Discussions to Emerge at Consensus

The official at Education Ministry mentioned that the Delhi Government is adhering to its election promises and to meet this endeavor, discussions are being held with various concerned personnel including teachers, experts and parents.

Trashing the concerns of confusion over syllabus change in middle of the academic year, the officials stated that there is proper consensus amongst all the stakeholders including Delhi Government Schools that October is the right time to reduce the syllabus.
