Say no to toxic materials

This year, Durga Puja festivities in Delhi, seem to be focussed on one theme - environment preservation.  Most of the mandals set up all over Delhi have been taking new initiatives to reduce the usage of toxic materials like plastic and encourage the use of bio-degradable materials in order to reduce environmental pollution.

CR Park’s D Block Durga Puja Mandal has been one of the pioneers in the national capital towards this initiative as it has been following this theme for the last 18 years. One of the chief organisers here, Debajyoti Basuroy, informed the media that they used recycled paper mesh and other biodegradable elements like jute, clay, hay etc. for decorations purposes, thereby avoiding toxic materials like thermocol and metal.

While speaking on the block’s efforts to save paper, another organiser of the festivities, Anshuman Sengupta confirmed that close to 80% of the paper usage of this block has been cut down this year, as they had used more LCD and LED screens for displaying advertisements and for publicity purposes.  Sengupta stated that Durga Puja is celebrated all over the world to celebrate the victory of good over evil. Hence, keeping in line with the theme, his block has been doing all what it could to protect the environment and safeguard it from all kinds of harmful substances. CR Park’s B Block has also set up its own water tank in the premises of the Puja ground, so that Visarjan (bidding farewell to the Goddess) could be a hassle-free affair and could save the cleanliness of the city’s already scarce water bodies.

Free Wi-Fi

The Durga Puja Mandal at Vasundara Enclave in the eastern part of India has been declared as a free Wi-Fi Zone, towards its successful completion of 25 years. There are many other eco-friendly Pujas and pandals in this area in order to promote the theme of environment conservation.
